Sparse retrieval
Sparse retrieval: Retrieval based on sparse representations and term occurrences, such as inverted indexes and BM25. It is effective for names, identifiers and exact matches and offers interpretable scores. It can miss synonyms and paraphrases, so it is often combined with dense retrieval.
